Questions on Travel

Not quite a rhetorical question, but what's there to do and see in New Orleans at the height of summer? (say the last week of July?)

I'm pondering the mandatory summer vacation and debate whether it'd be advisable to go to NOLa in July or whether I'm demonstrating less than good IQ points for going there when it's really, really, really hot.

ETA: Or Atlanta, Georgia? Beyond Coca-Cola. :p
