Based on the second triplet from
rysler:
coffee, ink, cherries
It was like watching rich pools
of fathomless depths --
coffee both light and dark --
swirl against pale porcelain.
And as the sun climbed
ever upward,
the colours darkened
into an inkyness
that closed the world away --
leaving the sense of harsh bitterness
tempered only by the merest hint
of false sweetener --
not quite enough to shatter
the cool surface.
By sundown,
and then moon rise,
the only hint of colour remaining
is the ring of coffee,
faint against porcelain,
broken only by the
slight smudge
of a cherry flavoured smile
at the edge.
