832. Untitled

As the April rains fall
and splatter against the windows,
the first of the spring daffodils
peak out from behind the green,
hidden away from the harsh winter
under muddy brown
and dully gray.

As the yellow blooms
dot the landscape,
they serve as a reminder
that the hope of spring
is just around the corner.

The cool climes
are a poor companion
to thoughts that would run away
untethered to reality,
as if fantasy mixed
with reality
to create new possibilities.

A rust red colour
bleeds out from behind
aged fences
where we once played --
climbing,
swinging,
and dreaming
of futures past.
