Promiscuous Freak - DJ Fox (Rick James Super Freak vs. Nelly Furtado Promiscuous) - for [livejournal.com profile] punky_96

XXV. 326 words

Miranda Priestly could name any number of beautiful women that she'd seen in varying degrees of dress; a photoshoot was not the place to try to be modest -- everyone was too caught up in trying to finish the shoot to really ogle anyone for more than a moment. So it came as a bit of a surprise that she had shown any sign of acknowledgment when her second assistant came walking through bedecked in Chanel from top to bottom. Certainly this change was very welcome until Miranda rued the folly of her appreciation.

It was one of those rare occasions that she'd returned back to Runway to retrieve something from her office, which led to the impromptu decision to duck down to the Closet and see the skirts that had been picked up from Calvin Klein (again!) that she realized the space was not as empty as she'd expected it. Flipping through the rack of skirts, she had not been paying atention to the other noises that seemed to be part and parcel of the Closet. At least not until she heard Nigel Kipling declared that he did not want to hear the Cerulean lecture ever again and Andrea needed to understand the importance of these designers before Miranda's wrath rained down upon everyone even sooner than usual.

Ducking behind some more racks, Miranda looked around and realized that with the variety of mirrors within the Closet, she could actually see all the way down the aisle to where Andrea was looking at something that Nigel was holding up. Without realizing it, Miranda's eyes traced a path along delicate clavicles and with a quiet gasp, she realized that this was a path her eyes had followed unconsciously for a while now. Damn Nigel and his penchant for Chanel; damn Andrea for choosing tops that gradually revealed more and more of that pale flesh; and damn herself for not realizing what she'd be seeing over the past while.

Gimme Suffragette City Shelter - The Illuminoids (David Bowie vs. The Rolling Stones) - for [livejournal.com profile] punky_96

XXVI. 225 words

Contrary to public belief, there was actually very little cradle robbing in the Sachs-Priestly relationship. There was no real way to ignore the age difference but they did not use the number as a reason or excuse either. Everyone might have wanted to believe in copious amounts of eye-shagging during Andrea Sach's brief tenure at Runway but the reality would never be as salacious as the imaginations of the gossip hounds. Barring that one occasion across the street from Elias-Clarke, the orbits of Miranda Priestly and Andrea Sachs would not intersect for another two years. Even that occasion was not a direct greeting at some fancy gala or a swank benefit, but rather through a serendipitous meeting of Cassidy Priestly and Andrea Sachs under the Greywacke Arch during a sudden spring storm.

Having sought refuge from the harsh rain drops, Andy realized that her fellow running enthusiast was already chattering away on her phone with a rapid description of the sudden rain and the ensuing delay that was unavoidable. It was with a rueful look that Andy thought that the young woman looked familiar but it wasn't until she heard the words: "Don't tell Mom about this, else she's going to send Roy around to try to drive me home." did she realize that she was dealing with one of Miranda Priestly's twin (now teen-aged) daughters.

Dangerous Mutations - DJ BC (Busta Rhymes - Dangerous (1998) vs. Jean-Claude Risset - Mutations (1969)) - for [livejournal.com profile] unfortunateggs

XXVII. 240 words

There always seemed to be a rhythm that guided the pacing of a day, and Miranda Priestly was no different. Those who knew her only at a distance might have presumed that she listened to a fair bit of classical musical - something that conjured the image of swank evenings and cocktail events with string quartets in a corner, providing just enough sound to help carry a conversation.

Those who knew her a bit better would have commented on her long-standing subscription to the Philharmonic and her presence at various galas benefiting the venerable institution. Occasionally, she could be seen attending the evenings celebrating the American songbook. Still fewer yet would have been able to name the jazz clubs that she would rarely visit during the late hours of the evening. Even her driver only knew of the occasions held at the various museums and never the trips downtown to the smaller clubs that afforded just enough anonymity that one more patron did not matter.

For the select few that were actually close enough to sneak a peek at her musical selections, there should have been no surprise at the number of classical jazz artists playing; no eyebrows were raised at the presence of Snoop Dogg on the list either. Only one person had been fortunate enough to actually see Miranda Priestly sway to the hypnotic thumping sound and then promptly declared that her hips were a dangerous weapon on their own.
