A matinée, a Pinter play,
Perhaps a piece of Mahler's.
I'll drink to that.
And one for Mahler!

Esparza to Return to Broadway in The Homecoming; McKean, Too
By Andrew Gans

Raúl Esparza, seen on Broadway last season as the confused bachelor Bobby in the Tony-winning revival of Company, will star in another revival come fall.

Variety reports that Esparza will join the previously announced Ian McShane for the Broadway revival of Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming. Michael McKean, the former "Laverne & Shirley" co-star whose Broadway credits include Hairspray and The Pajama Game revival, will also be part of the cast.

Daniel Sullivan will direct the Pinter revival, which is scheduled to begin previews at the Cort Theatre Nov. 16 with an official opening scheduled for Dec 4. The design team will feature set designer Eugene Lee, lighting designer Kenneth Posner and costume designer Jess Goldstein.

The Homecoming, according to the industry paper, "centers on the return of a man to his North London home with his new wife in tow." McShane will star as the family patriarch with McKean as his brother and Esparza as McShane's pimp son. Three actors have yet to be cast.

Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel — the producing team behind the revivals of Glengarry Glen Ross and The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial as well as the hit musical Spring Awakening — will produce the Homecoming revival.

Raul Esparza has starred on Broadway in Company, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Taboo, Cabaret and The Rocky Horror Show. He won Drama Desk Awards for his performances in Taboo and Company and received Tony nominations for his work in those shows as well. Off-Broadway Esparza was seen in tick, tick . . . BOOM! and the revival of The Normal Heart. He also starred in two of the Stephen Sondheim musicals that comprised the Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center, Sunday in the Park with George and Merrily We Roll Along.

Harold Pinter is also the author of The Caretaker, Betrayal, The Room, Ashes to Ashes and Celebration.
