It's always strange to write about something that could be viewed as fleeting, ephemeral, and not entirely tangible to the mind, never mind to the touch.
If the date was absolute
a gifting of love --
an exchange of hearts
as it were --
then this was a lopsided trade --
where the literal heart
was ripped apart
and all that was left within --
was a mess that never
completely healed,
nor could it resolve itself
to anyone's satisfaction.
Even with the passing of time --
memories will fade,
but the sudden pages
of remembrance pierce
the veil of shadows
that have descended.
