So.
Even though I can't plan the Southern aspect of my itinerary for all the (whatever is precious) in the world, I have picked up an Amtrak ticket for the Acela Express from Washington to New York City on August 2, 2009. I've been assured that it's a comfortable and quick ride, and it's cheaper than flying United into JFK and then navigating crosstown traffic back to NJ.
