The smell of coffee ruined the taste of gin on her tongue. It was that strange overlap of yesterday and today that provided the less-than-pleasant wake-up call - a liquid dinner that threatened to carry over onto the jolt of caffeine that would serve to power her through at least part of the morning if not longer. Strangely enough, it was less frequent to find herself craving either one of those tastes - both having been threatened with an outright ban if they were ever to be consumed at a steady pace at the Farmhouse. Perhaps it wasn't an outright cold-turkey cessation of a well prepared drink during lunch or dinner, but neither was it the daily stumbling demand for caffeine in the morning.
