Like a whirling dervish
of sudden change
and challenging newness
that sends lives spinning
out of control,
it was an archetype
of darkness
that slid sleek
and powerfully
across the square.

The notion that the public
and private persona
cannot be reconciled,
falls to the wayside
as a straw-man argument
against the truth.

Defeat is the bitter taste
left on lips un-kissed
and life unknown.
A path of choices
that left the accepted norm
years before,
it draws a line of travel
that eventually meets
the fated beginning once more.
