Very few would have ever imagined Miranda Priestly on vacation, and fewer still would have pictured her being able to enjoy the time away from Runway which also meant a relinquishing of control over the publishing empire that bore her imprimatur all over its pages. Yet here she was, ostensibly on vacation at a coastal resort that boasted some of the best beaches and cliff scenery, and she was already making a list to relay back to Nigel about the potential of doing a photoshoot for an autumn issue.
Even as the sun was hidden away by the wisps of clouds that drifted across brilliant blue, her attention was caught up in a bright smile and twinkling eyes that queried silently her level of enjoyment for this getaway that gave her an opportunity to be the Editor-at-Large even if it was only for two weeks. She knew that she'd never confess to wanting this time away from the City and Runway, but somehow she felt that her efforts at being blasé would be as transparent as the tidal waters.
She still marveled at her own good fortune in finally finding (or being found by) someone who knew her flaws and yet, did not run away in fear. It may have taken almost sixty-odd years to get to this point, but she had managed to final personal happiness and for once, it did not happen at the expense of her career or her children.
