Legally Blonde to Close on Broadway Oct. 19

The Broadway production of Legally Blonde, the musical about a valley girl with Harvard ambitions that is based on the film of the same name, will play its final performance at the Palace Theatre Oct. 19.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, Legally Blonde officially opened at the Palace April 29, 2007. The production will have played 595 regular performances and 30 previews when it concludes Oct. 19.

Bonds, Johnson, McLean, Lewis and Land Join Cast of Legally Blonde National Tour

Casting is now complete for the national tour of Legally Blonde: The Musical, which officially launches in Providence, RI, Sept. 21.

As previously reported, Becky Gulsvig — who understudied Tony-nominated actress Laura Bell Bundy as the musical's pink-clad heroine, Elle Woods, on Broadway — will head the cast of the national tour as the valley girl with Harvard ambitions.

Gulsvig will be joined by D.B. Bonds as Emmett, Natalie Joy Johnson as Paulette, Jeff McLean as Warner, Megan Lewis as Vivienne, Coleen Sexton as Brooke, Ken Land as Professor Callahan, Cortney Wolfson as Serena, Rhiannon Hansen as Margot, Crystal Joy as Pilar and Gretchen Burghart as Enid.

Harvard Variations: Gulsvig Will Lead Legally Blonde National Tour

When Legally Blonde's national tour hits the road this September, Broadway cast member Becky Gulsvig will be the musical's Chihuahua-toting star.

Producers have announced that Legally Blonde ensemble member Gulsvig – who understudies Tony nominee Laura Bell Bundy in the leading role of Elle Woods – has been cast as the musical's blonde heroine, who has Harvard ambitions. Complete tour casting will be announced at a later date.

Rockwell and Hart to Join Broadway's Legally Blonde Cast

Broadway's Legally Blonde will welcome two new cast members at the Palace Theatre in May.

Kate Rockwell — of "Grease: You're the One That I Want" fame — Rent's Nicolette Hart are set to join the company as Margot and Brooke Wyndham, respectively.

Hart will begin performances May 7. Legally Blonde cast member Nikki Snelson, who originally portrayed Brooke Wyndham, has left the production to star as Cassie in the national tour of A Chorus Line. Rockwell, who succeeds Haven Burton in the role of sorority sister Margot, begins performances May 14.

URSULA the sea witch idolizes Leona Helmsley, Jerry Falwell and Gloria Swanson, which is why their pictures are part of a collage hanging in Sherie Rene Scott’s dressing room at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater. Like many stage actors, Ms. Scott, who plays Ursula in the Disney play “The Little Mermaid,” uses her dressing room to get herself in the mood of her character. Unlike most Broadway actors, however, Ms. Scott has scored a dressing room the size of a Manhattan one-bedroom, and it comes with features: French doors opening onto the street and a pink bathtub (put there for Elizabeth Taylor in 1983, when she was in “Private Lives”).

So I was watching the MTV Legally Blonde performance this weekend and pretty much ignoring LBB on stage whenever there were other performers around. :)

Annaleigh Ashford originated the role of Margot in Legally Blonde and understudied the role of Elle Woods. She's currently at the Gershwin Theatre being very Good as Glinda in Wicked.

So the Drama Desk Awards have been handed out...

YaY! to Company for the Lead Actor prize for Raul Esparza, Orchestrations to Mary-Mitchell Campbell, and top prize for the Best Revival of a Musical. :)

It was interesting to note that the original and current orchestrators of Company (Jonathon Tunick and Mary-Mitchell Campbell) shared the prize. :) That, and the two revival Roberts -- Raul Esparza (2006) and Boyd Gaines (1995) -- were taking home awards :)
