It's a Cinch That the Bum Is Under the Thumb of Some Little Broad

Certain words, in certain contexts, are best left unspoken. In Des McAnuff’s uninspired new revival of “Guys and Dolls” at the Nederlander Theater that word happens to be “chemistry.” It is dropped — with a thud and a shatter — and hovers for the rest of the evening like a neon-lighted reproach.

Broadway's Xanadu to Close in October

Xanadu, the Tony-nominated musical based on the infamous flop film of the same name, will play its final performance at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre Oct. 12.

When it closes the musical will have played a total of 49 previews and 528 regular performances.

Xanadu Will Kick Off Tour in California; Chicago to Follow

The new Broadway musical Xanadu — which was recently nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical — will launch its national tour this fall at the La Jolla Playhouse.

The acclaimed musical, based on the infamous film of the same name, will begin its limited engagement at the California venue Nov. 11 and play through Dec. 21. Xanadu will then head to a Chicago theatre to be announced for a six-month run beginning in January 2009.

Xanadu Will Be Taped for Lincoln Center Archives

The new Broadway musical Xanadu — which was recently nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical — will be preserved.

The May 29 performance of the acclaimed musical at the Helen Hayes Theatre will be taped for the Lincoln Center Archives. Tickets are currently available to be part of that performance.

The cast of Xanadu will also be featured on the June 12 broadcast of "Live with Regis and Kelly." That morning chat show airs in the metropolitan area on WABC-TV, Channel 7 at 9 AM ET; check local listings.

Block, Broderick, Burns, Harada, Lewis, Sills and Von Essen Will Sing Comden & Green June 9

Comden & Green's New York: From Greenwich Village to the Great White Way is the title of an upcoming benefit for the Greenwich House Music School.

The June 9 benefit performance — directed and penned by Amanda Green, the daughter of the late Adolph Green — will be held at the Barrow Street Theatre. Phyllis Newman, Green's widow, is the evening's honorary chair. Jim Caruso produces.

Among those scheduled to perform the songs of Comden and Green are Michael Arnold, Kate Baldwin, Stephanie J. Block, Walter Bobbie, Matthew Broderick, Andrea Burns, Jonathan Dukochitz, Jonathan Freeman, Sean Martin Hingston, Ann Harada, Norm Lewis, Jessica Molaskey, John Pizzarelli, Douglas Sills, Mary Testa and Max von Essen.

Xanadu Stars Butler, Jackson, Roberts, Hoffman and Testa Renew Contracts Through January 2009

Xanadu producers Robert Ahrens, Tara Smith, Brian Swibel, Cari Smulyan and Dale Smith announced April 30 that the stars of their new musical have all renewed their contracts through January 2009.

Kerry Butler (Kira), Cheyenne Jackson (Sonny), Tony Roberts (Danny), Jackie Hoffman (Caliope) and Mary Testa (Melpomene) have signed on through Jan. 25, 2009. Xanadu, based on the film of the same name, plays the Helen Hayes Theatre.
