Julia Murney sings a great rendition of Cole Porter's C'est Magnifique on the Broadway By the Year 1953 album/event. You can imagine my surprise (or not) at the reappearance of this song in an advertisement. That it's paired with one of my favourite actresses is a bonus.

ETA: Of course, I just picked up a concert of Patti LuPone's where she sings this song.

So, several things - I've loaded as individual tracks, the choral singing. I've also loaded as a zip file, all of the songs (Julia and the choral stuff). It is sans banter, transitions, applause, chatter, etc etc.

I've also not loaded (as individual songs) the 'sing-alongs' because there was a lovely lady behind me who had a lovely voice... that is captured really clearly.

Take what you'd want and so forth. Share and share alike.

So, sometimes I wonder why I believe in backups for backups... and tonight I was reminded why. The HiMD decided that it was going to be recalcitrant and not function, so I have an audio by MD (two discs actually), and by the Sandisk.

Julia was lovely, she sang many songs. The chorus was fine, but since everything was in (I felt) a clear soprano, it was as exciting to hear as oatmeal settling. I was sitting next to a father with a jittery young daughter, so you may hear the candy wrappers, the juice box, and the jelly beans.
These two audios... are from the Children of Eden Benefit Concert (December 1, 2003) with Julia Murney and a whole bunch of other people... including Laura Benanti :)

CAST: Julia Murney (Mama Noah/Eve), Jonathan Dokuchitz(Adam/Noah), Kate Shindle (Yonah), Norm Lewis (Father), Darius de Haas (Cain/Japheth), Laura Benanti (The Snake), John Tartaglia (Seth/Shem)

One of these has the titles on the tracking, but Spark of Creation has (unfortunately) been split. :(

it seems like this year might be the year where I won't have to travel (too far) to see the performers I want to see... or maybe not. ;)

Julia Murney will be in town 12/13, singing seasonal songs. So I guess I'll be there sitting through seasonal songs. ;)

They will be joined by Marilyn Maye, Chuck Cooper, Matt Cavenaugh, Julia Murney, Christiane Noll, Cheryl Freeman, Lorinda Lisitza, Ron Bohmer and Erin Denman; the latter will "lead a small troupe of Broadway gypsys who will also sing and dance unplugged," according to a press release.

DIVA TALK: Chatting with Wicked's Ashford, Bean, Espinosa, Murney and Thompson

By Andrew Gans

News, views and reviews about the multi-talented women of the musical theatre and the concert/cabaret stage.

THE GALS OF WICKED
There can be little argument that the biggest theatrical phenomenon of the past five years has been the Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical Wicked, which is based on Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name. The production, which celebrates its fifth anniversary at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre Oct. 30, has been a massive hit wherever it has played, including sit-down productions in Chicago and Los Angeles, a national touring company, and international stagings in London, Tokyo, Stuttgart and Melbourne (there will soon be a second U.S. national touring company, and the Los Angeles production will transfer to San Francisco in January 2009). Much of the show's success can be credited to the exciting score (years ago, Schwartz gave belting fans "Meadowlark," and his work for Wicked includes the vocally soaring "Defying Gravity," "The Wizard and I" and "No Good Deed" as well as the comic and catchy "Popular" and the touching ballad "I'm Not That Girl") and the its big heart (Holzman's adaptation of Maguire's clever novel offers several touching moments and keeps the audience rooting for its green-skinned heroine). The musical also provides two of the greatest roles for women in recent musical theatre history, and the work of original co-stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel as well as future Glindas and Elphabas — including Annaleigh Ashford, Shoshana Bean, Stephanie J. Block, Kerry Ellis, Eden Espinosa, Megan Hilty, Kendra Kassebaum, Julia Murney, Jennifer Laura Thompson, among others — cannot be discounted. Recently "Diva Talk" posed the same four questions to several of the actresses who have brought Elphaba or Glinda to full life; their answers follow.

Chess

Until there's a better/clearer/less muffled audio to come out of the Chess: In Concert event at the Royal Albert Hall in London, I'm going to console myself by listening to not the two Elphabai (Idina Menzel and Kerry Ellis) but the one Elphaba version (Julia Murney) of Chess. :)

I managed to find (don't ask me how or when) this version of the 20003 Actor's Fund Benefit Concert which must have been ripped off of the DVD boot because the clarity is... so much better :)

Anyhow, I've tossed it back online, and take comfort in my hopes that there will be better audios from either last night or else tonight's performance of Chess.:)

Annaleigh Ashford originated the role of Margot in Legally Blonde and understudied the role of Elle Woods. She's currently at the Gershwin Theatre being very Good as Glinda in Wicked.

So, 1956 Budapest is Rising/Nobody's Side was the first track I'd heard from the Chess Benefit concert from a mix-collection (Ohcouture Mix) more than a year ago... probably closer to two?

Yeah. :)

Fell in love with Julia Murney by that song alone. Plus, the mix also had Murney's Magic from Piece and tracks from Lippa's The Wild Party.
